TRIP REPORT, Visit to Big Country, Maxwell, NE - This visit actually happened some time ago and I am just getting around to a write-up.

Those of you who travel I-80 in Nebraska may want to stop in and visit this location. Just east of North Platte, NE is the small town of Maxwell, NE; home of Big Country Windmills. There used to be quite an assortment of windmill parts visible from the interstate but now most of the inventory has been moved to town & housed. There is still an assortment of farm implements and some towers left at the home site.

Take the Maxwell exit & turn North into town. The main building is straight across the railroad tracks.

This is the mailbox at the home site location out by the interstate. I believe Randy has some good plans for this site but will let him tell you about those.
The collectables and antique parts are housed in an old store location. Note the pressed tin ceiling panels. VERY interesting place to visit.
Also in this store location is a good assortment of old sails, wheels, weights, vanes and other items.
The steel building (North of the tracks) houses most of the inventory.
One of the shop areas in the steel building. Can't you just see Cousin Artie slinging 20' gear cases around?
More of the inventory in the steel building
Whoops! Another photo from the storefront building
Outside of the steel building in the yard. Many, Many wheels, vanes, tail bones, gear cases, you name it!
While I was visiting, Ray & Adam Balsick stopped in for a visit (& parts). They were on the way back to their place east of Colorado Springs. Left to right, Adam, Randy, Ray.

I hope to make more visits to various windmillers & windmill sites soon.

Flight To Texas - Some of you old timers will remember the Trade Fairs South of Lamar Colorado, near "Two Buttes" Colorado; plus I believe we have a future Trade Fair Scheduled for this area again. This area is on a ridge with some very good wind conditions and thus has become populated by some of the large wind generators. So now you will find a mixture of the old with the new in the methods of gaining useful work from the wind. I am in Texas right now having flown over this area enroute to Borger, TX to refuel. Here are some photos I snapped showing some of the features.
